Northern Ireland Opera Salon Series; Six one-act productions staged around venues in NI with the lastest up and coming operatic stars. The Salon Series was a new programme of short operas, cabaret and musical theatre staged in venues such as Hillsborough Castle, St. Columb's Hall Derry & St. Joesph's Sailortown Belfast. All well known venues but not the usual places that opera is performed. Below is a photo summary of my coverage of this Salon Series for NI Opera.
Venue 1 - Hillsborough Castle.
'La Voix Humaine' by Francis Poulenc, performed by soprano Mary McCabe and pianist David Quigley in the Throne Room, Hillsborough Castle.
Venue 2 - St. Columb's Hall Derry.
'Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered': songs from the golden age of musical theatre including songs by George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Stephen Sondheim, performed by soprano Wendy Ferguson and pianist Ruth McGinley.
Venue 3 - St. Joesph's Sailortown Belfast.
'Sea Wrack' Art songs by Irish composers performed by soprano Susie Gibbons, mezzo Jenny Bourke, tenor Michael Bell and baritone Seamus Brady with pianist Fraiser Hickland. Female outfits designed by Sara O'Neill.
Venue 4 - The Harp Bar Belfast.
'The Lost Boy: Street Scenes and Soldiers Tales': cabaret and music theatre songs about loss, love and hope performed by Conor Quinn in The New Orpheus above The Harp Bar in Belfast accompanied by Darren Day on piano, John Gillen on drums and Thomas Alford on bass.
Venue 6 - The Courtyard Theatre Newtownabbey
'Les Nuits D'Ete' by Hector Berloiz performed by mezzo Sinead Kelly and pianist Bryan Evans.
